Sophos rolls out its first hosted MDM offering
A cloud service based on security organisation's existing technologies
By Reseller News Staff, Auckland | Tuesday, 11 September 2012Security provider Sophos yesterday announced the hosted version of its mobile device management solution, Sophos Mobile Control as a Service.
According to a statement, the new offering gives its reseller partners more flexibility in selling solutions to clients. The cloud version is based on Sophos Mobile Control 2.5. As with other cloud offerings, it is designed to help clients deploy an MDM solution without changes to existing IT infrastructure, or addingfurther management burdens.
Sophos plans to introduce a full range of hosted security applications, as well.
The vendor says the cloud solutions will still require reseller expertise and consulting, especially for businesses new to MDM solution deployments. Mobile Control is managed through a web console, self-service portal and a mobile client.
“The expansion of BYOD programs and the prevalence of mobile devices on business networks means mobile device management is an issue with which companies of all sizes are grappling. This presents a great opportunity for resellers and other solution providers, as many companies are looking to their IT consultants for help managing mobile devices,” says Stacy Crook, senior analyst, Mobile Enterprise Research, IDC, according to the statement. “Sophos’s new SaaS-based MDM solution provides businesses with a sound option for securing mobile devices without creating more work for the IT department. Additionally, Sophos partners can increase their revenue by offering services that meet the growing demand for mobile device management.”
