SnapperNet inks deal with Mako Networks

Companies expect to become a one-stop-shop for security solutions

SnapperNet has signed an agreement that allows the company to distribute Mako Networks’ network security management solution.

The solution is a combination of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and a Hosted Central Management System (CMS).

According to Richard Paul, SnapperNet’s director, “Mako Networks is certified as a PCI DSS Level One Service Provider and manufactures a system that can automatically take care of 100 percent of a retail merchant’s PCI DSS network security requirements quickly, easily and cost effectively”.

Paul added that soon all retailers processing credit card transactions will need to be PCI compliant and the Mako solution can make that process easier for them. “The rules of PCI DSS are written in such a way that it is not enough just to become compliant. A merchant must at all times remain compliant,” said the director. “If card holder data is stolen and a merchant is found not to have been compliant at the time of the breach, it is most likely the merchant who will be held responsible.”

SnapperNet’s director further explained that this solution is aimed at resellers who want a managed platform that they don’t have to look after and works as a complement to SnapperNet’s Cyberoam, which is more suitable for people who want to build their own managed platform.

As for Mako Networks, it is said to have found in SnapperNet the perfect partner. Adrian Pearce, Mako Networks’ business development manager, says Mako was looking for “a company that partners with their customers rather than simply taking orders and box dropping, a company able to quickly respond to market needs (such as the PCI DSS), offer local support for the products they represent and most importantly, a company that understands networking”.

The two companies expect to become a “one-stop-shop for security solutions”. “We want to be able to say ‘we can do that’ whenever someone asks for a particular solution, because we have the tools and the portfolio of products to suit anyone from a one-person office to government and corporate,” added Paul.
