Microsoft announces tablet family
Vendor announces Surface line of tablets with Windows 8
By Reseller News Staff, Auckland | Tuesday, 19 June 2012Microsoft has announced the launch of its line of super-thin tablets called Surface, equiped with Windows 8, at a conference in LA.
"Today we want to add another piece to that Windows story," said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer during the announcement. Ballmer says the company wanted its new Windows 8 OS to have its own hardware. The result is a line of 10.8 inch tablets running on Intel processors but it is also going to work on Nvidia processors.
The new tablet puts Microsoft in competition with hardware vendors who will also release Windows 8 tablets.
It features its own kickstand and the keyboard is part of the device's cover, which also includes a built-in trackpad. The gorilla glass screen has a resolution of 1080p and there is also a display port. Surface also supports digital ink.
Microsoft says the device will be available in the US soon. No word yet on the exact launch date.

Looks a great product. A good blend between a tablet and laptop.
When will it be available in NZ? What is the approximate price?
How many hours of battery life will it have?
