HP staff in NZ laid off
Hewlett-Packard remains silent on extent of local job cuts
By Randal Jackson - Computerworld, Wellington | Tuesday, 28 August 2012Hewlett-Packard has begun laying off staff in New Zealand.
Globally, the company announced in May that it would lay off 27,000 people, or eight percent of its workforce, over the next two years to save $US3 billion - $3.5 billion. The announcement followed a 31 percent profit drop and three percent revenue fall in its second quarter, the third consecutive quarter of lower numbers.
Computerworld has been told that at least six sales staff have been made redundant locally, along with an unspecified number of others, including some long-serving employees. More are said to be going this month.
A figure of 35 has been touted around the industry. Hewlett-Packard responded to Computerworld enquiries by saying it didn’t comment on rumour and speculation.
