Distribution Central appoints account manager for Wellington

Ashwin Patel moves from Westcon, with a focus on government and big data

Distribution Central has moved into the Wellington market, hiring Ashwin Patel as channel account manager. Patel had been with Westcon for the previous four-and-a-half years.

“Traditionally, Distribution Central has operated out of Auckland but market dynamics are shifting around government and how IT is used,” Patel says. “There are new partners coming through, and issues around things like All of Government, the security market and big data.”

He says the company has plans to increase head count in Wellington when it brings new vendors on board. He wouldn’t name the new vendors.

Distribution Central's managing director Nick Verykios told Reseller Newsthat the company is putting a strong focus on the New Zealand market and Patel is only one of the hires the distie intends to make this year, as it further expands its operations in the country.

The opening of the Wellington branch will be followed by a new office in the South Island. "We plan to have another four people minimum by the end of this year," Verykios said during a recent visit to Auckland.

The company has also recently moved into new premises in Auckland, in the Viaduct area. “Our new location in Auckland is a knowledge centre, open to resellers to empower them to understand the technologies," he says. According to Verykios, the company also has a number of reseller tools at the R&D stage as it works on signing on new vendors and resellers in New Zealand.
