Otago University seeking server, storage details

Major hardware replacement planned

By Reseller News Staff, Auckland | Friday, 25 September 2009

The University of Otago is on a procurement drive and has issued a request for information covering servers and storage. The details will help prepare a request for proposal to acquire replacement infrastructure equipment that will be used over the next four years.

The systems will support 21,000 students and 5000 staff. It is looking at commissioning a second data centre using VMware vSphere technology and Oracle VM virtualisation software.

The University’s current database servers have reached end-of-life and it wants to replace them with Oracle database servers that will run Oracle on a Linux x86-64 architecture .

Its main data centre storage area network (SAN) is also nearing the end of its useful life and the University wants suppliers to provide information on a replacement that uses Oracle, Novell and vSphere host servers.

The deadline for replies is Thursday, October 15. More details are available on the Government Electronic Tenders website under ICCNZ reference 27384.
