Ingram Micro wins Kaseya appointment
Companies strike world-first distribution deal
By Reseller News Staff and Nadia Cameron, Auckland and Sydney | Thursday, 25 February 2010Kaseya has appointed Ingram Micro to offer the distributor's partners its software as a service tools on both sides of the Tasman.
“Remote management and managed services has seen tremendous uptake in our region in the last couple of years," says David Lenz, Ingram's Australian-based Enterprise Technology Group general manager. "However, IT service providers have often shied away from the significant investment required to deploy high-end remote management applications.
“With Kaseya’s IT Toolkit our partners can start down the path of providing IT services without having to make any upfront investment."
Kaseya's regional director Tim Dickinson says the agreement is a first for the Australian and New Zealand markets, and the appointment will help partners transition to new revenue streams and grow the managed services market.
“If you look at the evolution of the Kaseya product we’ve invested a significant amount of money in developing the new platform K2 with SAAS distribution in mind. The Toolkit that Ingram Micro will be distributing looks very different from the Kaseya on premise solution."
He says it has being simplified for ease of use so the service providers can get up and running with managed services very quickly.
"We chose Ingram Micro because they have extensive reach into the reseller base and are a very good fit for us.”
Kaseya’s K2 range of remote systems management applications, which are built on top of the Amazon Elastic Compute 2 (EC2) platform, will be offered through Ingram’s new IT Toolkit facility, according to Australian Reseller News.
Access to IT Toolkit costs NZ$9.95 per account, plus $1.50 for each managed machine per month for up to 25 seats. There are no upfront costs or contracts and resellers can manage a mix of desktop PCs, laptops and servers through the centralised platform.
Lenz told ARN Ingram is very interested in managed services and the deal with Kaseya represents the first step in providing tools for resellers to get into this market.
Features available to Ingram resellers include remote systems management tools like task manager and command-line access, a registry editor, event viewer, remote hardware inventory, desktop displays, FTP access, and video, voice and IM chat functionality, according to ARN.
Kaseya will launch integrated online backup and network mapping features in the next couple of months, global CEO Gerald Blackie told the Australian publication. Ingram is also looking at complementary third-party applications and capabilities to sit on top of IT Toolkit, but Lenz declined to provide ARN with further details.
