Technology used
IBM Datapower XB60 XML appliance
Integration Works delivered a smooth Datapower-based solution on its first major effort with the SOA platform. The company saw SOA would be the best option for Fulton Hogan’s system integration challenges and designed an application to run the IBM Datapower XB60 XML appliance.

Fulton Hogan, one of this country's largest civil contracting companies, was running a number of disparate systems, both internal and in the cloud, as a result of acquisitions. Its approach to integration was based around point to point data integration. Integration Works suggested that the company adopts a SOA (service oriented architecture) approach, as that would be substantially more cost effective. In addition standards-based SOA leverages existing assets and provides agility to respond to new business initiatives in a timely manner.
Integration Works developed and implemented a full SOA integration application on the IBM Datapower XB60 appliance in a short time frame. In that time, Integration Works identified Fulton Hogan’s functional requirements so that it could design a solution that was the ‘right fit’ for Fulton Hogan.
As Fulton Hogan acquires third-parties to diversify its business, Datapower gives the company the capabilities to integrate the IP and database resources of its acquisitions – HR, payroll, asset management systems and so on – quickly and easily. This solution enables Fulton Hogan to eliminate the complex data and system conversion requirements of acquisitions and leverage existing investments in a timely and effective manner. In short Fulton Hogan can acquire a business and its systems and quickly and easily integrate that business into the group.
A first for Integration Works, this hardware integration has provided a significant reduction in rework and time to market for the customer. Integration Works plans to expand its services built around the IBM Datapower appliance, as it represents a cost-effective platform for development and fast implementation.
